Yoann Gourcuff at Saint Etienne?

By: Richard | April 9th, 2008

According to Le Parisien it’s possible (although, admittedly, they also go on to say that it has little chance of coming to fruitrition).

The former Rennais & France U-21 international would fit in incredibly well at Saint Etienne, and it seems there is room for him.
Who knows?
Let’s file this under hopefully, but probably not.

What a mistake he made going to Milan before he was ready. Actually, what a mistake his dad made at making him go there.

Well his dad is a very good coach, and he started off brightly. Something happened this summer, Ancelotti just stopped playing him, and now he stuttered.

It happened even before this summer. Gourcuff wasn’t getting games last season but stayed at Milan because Ancelotti promised him that Milan wouldn’t buy anymore midfielders…except they bought Emerson. Gourcuff’s even been dropped from the U21 squad because he hasn’t been playing enough. That’s pretty sad for the the original “New Zidane.”

So, I think it’s obvious he won’t stay at Milan, but (if not Saint Etienne) where will he be next year?

Guys, watching Gourcuff at the San Siro, on the outside chance he plays has been good. He is talented but has been a waste of talent at Milan. He lacks a true role in the squad and when he does play he tries so hard that he just looks lost, I do expect him to move on but did think maybe a bigger club would come calling, say Lyon…

Has he lost that much popularity in France?

His ship with Lyon has already sailed unforunately. It’s funny but two years ago, Lyon really wanted Gourcuff, who wanted to come to OL, but his Dad swayed him and directed him towards Milan. So Lyon bought his teammate Kim Kallstrom instead. Now Lyon have an entire host of talented midfielders, and there is no room on the squad. And to be honest, he no longer appeals to the club anyway. Who knows if he can return to the player he was supposed to be?

Gianfranco, the opinion in France is that he’s a popular player who is being wasted on Milan’s bench. But he didn’t make any friends when he said last year that returning to France doesn’t hold his interest unless it’s Lyon because it’s too much of a step down from Milan.

Funny, and now his best hopes are clubs like Lens, PSG, and St. Etienne.

Yeah i agree there is no chance of him going 2 Lyon but with Ederson moving to Lyon who thinks there is a chance for him to move to Nice who still have a chance of qualifying to the UEFA cup next season
